Helping in Haiti - August 2014
For the past 8 years we have been traveling to Haiti, helping those less fortunate... a dream of Nicole's and something of great importantance to us. Our latest trip was part of the Sanneh Foundation's 'Haitian Initiative.'
In conjunction with the US Embassy, the goal was to bring together the Police Nationale d'Haiti's (PNH) Community Policing Unit, the Association Nationale des Scouts d'Haïti (Scouts) and the Haitian Ministry of Youth & Sports Community Engagement Coaches to provide quality sports-based youth development program activities to at-risk youth in four areas of Port-au-Prince: Cite Soleil, Delmas 33, Martissant and Petion-Ville.
The week-long series of youth clinics culminated in the Haitian Initiative Festival of Friendlies, in Petion-Ville... 8 hours, 9 games, 750 kids, police & coaches, 1 field, 10000 bags of water & food for 850... all in a day's work. The end result was communities working together and lots of smiles!
